An animated version of social commentator and former superintendent, Leroy Logan, now appears on the BBC Teach website. This comes after Leroy’s journey into the Metropolitan Police force was immortalised as part of Sir Steve McQueen’s now iconic series, Small Axe.
Leroy’s is one of five short educational films exploring the lives of London’s West Indian community during the 1960s, 70s and 80s. They combine extracts from Steve McQueen’s collection of films with archive and bespoke narration, to bring significant moments from recent black British history to life for students.
Of the series, Leroy said, ‘It’s great to see the big splash created by the Small Axe series in 2020 has had a ripple effect in 2021, especially through the BBC Teach videos for each of the episodes including my one ‘Red, White And Blue’. Being able to use the series to teach our history and reach young people at Key Stage 3 and 4 is really important and a proud moment for me, because it helps young people to learn from history and less likely to repeat its mistakes.’
You can view the entire series on the BBC Teach website.
Leroy Logan MBE is currently doing school workshops. Please email artists@tgrg.co.uk if you’d like to find out more.
